Watson Architects - design sustain conserve

Heritage-listed residence 2

Development of a Conservation Plan and proposed alterations & additions for a Qld Heritage-registered property.

This residence is a private home, originally built in the 1860s with substantial additions undertaken in the 1880s.  The project involved historical research, analysis of the existing fabric, assessment of significance and formulation of conservation policies to guide future care, development and maintenance policies for the building.  The project also involved a design for additional alterations and additions to meet the modern lifestyle of the client’s family.

A proposal for alterations and additions was based on the information from the Conservation Plan and submitted for approval with the Local Authority and the Qld Heritage Council of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Approval was granted and the client is to proceed with the proposal in stages.

The proposal includes the return of the original driveway access to the building, the development of a four-car garage, a gymnasium, two additional bedrooms, a relocated kitchen, a new swimming pool, billiards/ entertainment room and a food and wine cellar.

The work is designed to fit comfortably with the existing architecture of the heritage-registered building without resorting to direct imitation.
